SYHOS-Blog-BannerWorking at Hart’s is such a huge source of inspiration.   The best part of the morning is getting to see what fabulous new garment everyone is wearing.  It is truly a sight to see all the ladies  squealing and oohh-ing and aahh-ing in excitement over each others creations!  And we get just as excited about seeing our customers creations too!

We have such a great community of sewist and fabric lovers from our retail location here in Santa Cruz to our online community all around the world.  It feels truly special to be apart of such an amazingly creative community.  Thank you everyone for sharing your projects with us!

Each week we will have a customer project photo contest on Facebook.  The pic with the most likes will get a $50 gift certificate. Every Friday we will post all the photos we have received and we will select the winner on Monday morning. Post your project pics on our Facebook page to enter to win next week.

Below are pictures of all the handmade garments seen around the store from employees, customers and some online customers sent in pics too.  Hope you get inspired to make something new this weekend.  And remember to share your project pics with us!  Happy Sewing!

Leslie has been a long time employee here at Hart’s and seriously ALWAYS wears handmade garments to work.  She made this dress by copying a favorite dress she already had in her closet.   I absolutely love the pin-tucking detail at the bottom and drawstring ribbon under the bust line.  The fabric is a linen/cotton blend.

Another handmade dress that Leslie wore to work this week.  The dress has button down front with shirring in the back.  The fabric is a rayon challis print.

joe-collageJo is another long time employee who is always wearing a handmade fashion.  This is a button down western shirt with gingham fabric for the main and contrasting red polka dot yoke and collar.  If you know Jo, then you know she always adds some fabulous trim, ribbons or lace to her garments.  For this shirt she used a floral ric rac that we recently got in.

annie-collageAnnie is wearing an adorable top she made from McCalls pattern#6751.  She also taught a class on this shirt.  The fabric is a lightweight woven cotton stripe.

bridgett-collage       Bridget made these fun pants by copying a pair of her favorite yoga pants.  She sewed in an elastic waistband like you would with a pair of boxers.  The fabric is a jersey knit print.  Simple, comfy and fun!

tera-collageTera made this floral cotton gathered skirt with a waistband elastic band and she even added pockets with a matching solid.   You do not need a pattern for this skirt it is so simple and fun!

doneKatrina made these sassy pants out of of a floral stretch knit.  She actually did an awesome detailed tutorial on how to make them here.
