One of the most common upholstery projects that we get coming through our store is the box cushion. Box cushions are the perfect way to add some padding to benches, chests and stools to make them comfortable and cute to sit on. Our new class taught by upholstery pro, Becky Carter, will teach you how to make this versatile project.
In this two-session class, you will be learning how to sew “boxed” cushions for upholstery. Step by step, we will be cutting foam to fit, patterning the fabric, learning how to integrate piping or custom details, and sewing in a zipper. Learn how to make cushions of all shapes and sizes, including using the right materials for the job. Materials included, but you must bring your own machine! Basic machine sewing skills necessary.
This class begins on February 25th and is offered again beginning March 20th. Space is limited in these classes so sign up today in-store, online or over the phone.
Hello! My name is Annie Geranios and I love fashion and teaching! I started sewing on my own when I was 13 and always loved making my own clothes. I also have an obsession with vintage clothing and styles. After graduating high school at San Lorenzo High, I decided to go to West Valley College in Saratoga, to learn all that I could about fashion design and construction. After three years of college I started working at Hart’s Fabric and wanted to teach crafty individuals how to sew and make clothing.
For my first class I will be teaching Intro to Zippers, starting on Sunday February 17th from 12-3. So get ready to Sew and have fun!
Time to change out the worn-out fabric on that beloved antique? This four-week course with Becky Carter covers the fundamentals of upholstery, including what tools to use, stretching and stapling fabric, making and using piping, picking the right materials for the job, tufting, and sewing for upholstery. Leaving the class, you will feel confident to practice simple-to-moderate upholstery projects yourself at home. You will start out by practicing making a basic slip seat on the first day, and then spend the remaining classes working on your own simple re-upholstery project with the tutelage and close guidance of the instructor. Materials are included for the slip seat project (in the first session), but not for your personal re-upholstery piece. Class capacity is limited to 5.
