Hey, gang! This is a really easy way to make an invisible zipper pillow. It only takes three stitches and a little bit of wrestling with a zipper. So let’s start off with what you will need for supplies:
-One 14″ Pillow form
-15″ of any width of fabric, I used Hokusai Deer Hillock Cotton Canvas Orange
-One 14″ Invisible zipper
First, you are going to cut your fabric into 15″ by 15″ squares– this is to be used for the 14″ pillow form. If you are using a larger pillow form add an inch to your square size and cut accordingly. If your pillow form is larger you may also need a larger zipper so keep that in mind.
So since I’m using an invisible zipper I take the time to iron my coils out. This will get you closer to the coils when you sew.
Once you have your fabric cut you will then pin one side of your zipper to the right side of your fabric as shown in the photo. Use your zipper foot and sew a straight line.
You will repeat this step for the other side of the pillow. Just make sure that your sewing the correct way which can be tricky. A trick I like to do is pretend the zipper is already sewn in and see if the fabric would lay the correct way. Leave about 1″ at the edge of each side of the zipper.
After you have both sides of the zipper sewn in flip the fabric up and follow the stitch out till the end of each side of the pillow. I forgot to show this in a photo, but if you are used to sewing with an invisible zipper in a dress it would be the same way. You just fold both sides of the fabric back out to be open again and stitch till the end of the pillow edges.
Now you are going to sew up the other three sides of the pillow in one continuous stitch making sharp turns at the corners. You can use your sewing machine’s needle down position to turn the fabric for these turns without loosing your stitch line.
After that, you just clip your corners and turn the case right side out, stuff the pillow form in and you’re all done!
You can make a ton of these to change up your decor with the seasons or if you’re a free spirit and just feel like switching it up!
