As we are approach the end of the Laurel sew-a-long I hope everyone is ready to stitch up those last seams and put on their new dress.
The Laurel was such a easy fun pattern to make. I made it even easier (by accident) by not putting in the zipper. I chose not to put a zipper in the dress because the finished size of my Laurel turned out to be bigger than anticipated. Since the floral leopard fabric I chose has a such a nice flowy drape, it just slips over my head quite nicely and it super comfortable to wear.
Since the dress was so easy to make I decided to do a fancy hem that I just learned how to do. It’s called a blind hem stitch, which is a hem that is not meant to be seen on the right side of the fabric and is accomplished by picking up one thread of the fabric on wrong side. This was originally a hand done technique used by professional seamstresses for years. Now you can do it on a machine, which is much faster than hand sewing and it looks perfect when done.
