Welcome to day 6 of our Traverse Bag Sew Along! Today we’ll be working with the Lining Main and Interior Slip Pocket pieces.
First up is assembling the Interior Slip Pocket. Put both pieces right sides together and sew around entire rectangle, leaving a 5″ opening one long side. I like to back-stitch at the beginning and end. Next, clip the corners and turn right side out, pushing out corners, and pressing the seam allowance in so that it’s even with the sewn section. Finish by top stitching across one long edge.
Second up is attaching the slip pocket to a lining main piece. Center the pocket on the lining main 3″ down from the top and pin in place. Now, sew the pocket on, beginning at the top of one side with a triangle for extra stability, topstitch down one side, across the bottom, and up the other side, ending with a triangle.
Third up is sewing the two lining main pieces together. Clip the two lining pieces right sides together. Now, using the same technique as Tuesday’s blog you will need to clip 1″ squares out of each bottom corner. Then, sew both sides and the bottom, leaving an 8″ opening along the bottom. Press seams open.
The fourth step is creating the box corners. Reaching into the lining, pull apart a side seam and its corresponding bottom seam, matching the seams and clipping together. Sew corner seams, and trim to 1/4.”
And that’s it for today! Super simple and quick. Next week we get to put it all together and show off our Traverse Bags!
