It’s day 7 of our Traverse Bag Sew Along! I can’t believe we’re putting the whole shebang together and when we’re done today we’ll have a brand new purse.
First off you’ll want to put the assembled exterior into the assembled interior, matching side seams, and clip so that the interior is attached to the zipper from the exterior. I chose to have the interior slip pocket on the back side of the purse, but you can have it on either side, just know that you need to make that decision before you sew the two pieces together.
Next you’re going to sew around the top of the bag using your zipper foot, going slowly and making sure that you don’t hit the zipper or the zipper stops.
Now you’re going to pull the exterior out of the lining and turn right side out, keeping the lining out of the bag so that you can sew up the opening in the bottom.
You can do this by hand or machine, I used the machine because hand sewing is not my bag (baby).
Now we need to put the lining in the bag and press around the zipper opening to make sure that the interior and exterior are pressed away from the zipper. Carefully, using your zipper foot, topstitch around the top of the bag.
Here you can see my finished bag body and the topstitching…almost done!
Finally, we’re going to put the strap together using the strap slider. Refer to Anna’s directions for threading the strap through the slider, they are very detailed and she has a great diagram.
And we’re done! Here’s my completed Traverse Bag that I can’t wait to start using. During the sew along I’ve been sewing up another Traverse, and I’ll show you photos of that tomorrow when we have our wrap up. Please tag your bags #hartssewalong
